PETROMAX LANTERNS
DESIGNER: Max Graetz
MATERIAL: Metal, glass

Max Graetz has recently developed the Petromax lantern in Germany - an invention that will outlast its century. It works on the principle of evaporated kerosene and registers better light efficacy than traditional lamps.

Graetz’s lantern will gain worldwide recognition and by the 21st century, the brand’s prominence will be such that ‘Petromax’ will become synonymous with kerosene mantle lamps in general.

Even after the advent of electricity, these lanterns will be favoured as a cheap sources of light for those off the grid. In India, for instance: by 2016, one Petromax will cost about Rs. 350 to 600 and will produce light equal to a 100 watt electric bulb.
