ROUND FAN WITH FLOUNCE
COMPANY: Unknown
YEAR: Unknown

Besides the leaf and semicircular shapes, round pankhas, such as the one exhibited, were popular too. This style would have been operated by an attendant.

The muted pastels of the blade and flounce are complementary. The silver handle has four graceful corners that perfectly frame the carved-in floral pattern. While the sequence and threadwork at the centre is stitched by hand, the flounce is finished with a sewing machine, suggesting that this pankha belongs to the 20th century or a later period.
