FEATURES: Besides working with material such as wood and lacquer, Sandeep Sangaru has also deployed the use of bamboo to create ‘handcrafted and sustainable’ furniture. Sangaru works with local artisans from the Shankhela region of Tripura to gain first-hand experience with the materials; his design philosophy is almost an extension of that adopted by MP Ranjan. Part of the ‘Rethinking Bamboo’ themed-exhibition at the first edition of the Beijing International Design Triennial in 2011, the bamboo chair is created by Sangaru in collaboration with the local bamboo artists. A lounging chair with an ottoman, it is based on the design of a classic Wings Chair — a type of easy chair with padded cushions at the seat, arm rests, back and wings.
