The patented Gordian Lock was developed by Ardeshir Godrej and worked with two keys. Both keys could lock and unlock the device but the second ‘Check key’ could also modify the inner workings of the lock and thereby render the first key useless. Such joint control helped in case of loss or if the keys were suspected of having been duplicated.
