Godrej’s Patented Home Savings Safe finds roots in an entrepreneurial voyage.
It is 1906, the year Ardeshir Godrej has travelled abroad to learn the latest technology in
safe-making. However, he has noticed that foreign companies still use flammable sawdust in
the intermediate chamber, between the outer case and inner lining.
A few years later - when manufacturing will begin at Godrej & Boyce - Ardeshir will ensure that
vaults are completely fire-resistant by employing an improved, incombustible compound. The
doorframe, double-plated doors and lock-case will be patented; and these safes will be sold at
half the price of foreign models.
Over time, the brand will acquire such renown that when the Queen of England will visit India
in 1912, she will request a Godrej safe for her precious belongings.
