KEROSENE LAMPS
DESIGNER: Unknown
MATERIAL: Brass, Aluminium

The year is 1859 and the West has just begun the use of drilling rigs for
obtaining petroleum. Soon, kerosene (a by-product of petroleum) will become
the primary fuel for lighting world over – until Sir Joseph Swann and Thomas
Edison invent the electric incandescent lamp in the 1870s.

Kerosene lamps of both kinds – the ones that use a wick and a mantle – will
steadily grow in popularity. The design will allow for the light source to be
hung, placed on tables, mounted on walls or carried around – not unlike the
gas lamps from the preceding era.
