India has a vast repository of brass lamps that is incredible in its variety and
design. These lamps have practical and sacred beginnings. Lamps such as
Archana Deep, Arti Deep, and Deep Lakshmi were specific to the religious altar.

A host of other lamps were generally used in the home or for commemorative
purposes, amongst which the Samai Deep (tall standing form - displayed),
Toran Deep (arch frame with numerous lamps) and Tungta Diya (hung lamps)
    were most popular.

Both kinds were lavished with decorative elements, animal forms and floral
motifs. Their craftsmanship tells of India’s metallurgical skills and vivid artistic
    imagination.
