BUDDHA, MIRPUR KHAS, SINDH
MATERIAL: Terracotta
PERIOD: c. 5th century AD

An early example of seating is this terracotta sculpture of the Buddha meditating in the padmasana (lotus position), from the stupa of provenance of which can be traced to Sindh. The finely detailed elevated structure is one of the many manifestations of the asana.
