EL’BO STOOL
DESIGNER: Garima Aggarwal Roy
MATERIAL: Bamboo, cane

In 2009, furniture and interior designer Garima Aggarwal Roy uses bamboo and cane to create the El’bo Stool. The contemporary design Roy devises involves pre-heating bamboo splints, bent later to a particular shape and style, and then glued back-to-back to strengthen them. A form of cane binding holds the legs together. The actual seat consists of half-lap joints, which brings together the three sections.

Having studied under the late Professor MP Ranjan at Ahmedabad’s National Institute for Design, Roy takes inspiration from his idea of using natural materials — especially bamboo — to create sustainable design.
