Designer Ayush Kasliwal’s Jaipur-based AKFD, a contemporary furniture studio, crafts a
minimally designed bar-style stool using mango wood for its seat and aluminium for its slickly
crafted legs with slight protrusions for the user to prop their feet. The design of the two
identical yet independent wooden planks is perhaps reminiscent of Japanese product designer
Sori Yanagi’s Butterfly Stool of 1954, designed at a crucial moment in Japanese history, as
Japan was then a fast-emerging industrial country. The legs of the elegant and sparely
designed Sundarban Stool are made out of two inverted V-shaped aluminium structures.
