Maharaja Man Singh I builds Amer Palace in the 16th century. The structure
features beautiful wall paintings and artists from the Mughal court have
worked on the marble panels set in relief. But the stunning attraction is the
Sheesh Mahal or Hall of Mirrors.
Here, detailed mirror inlay is achieved using the Persian technique of fixing
pieces into wet plaster. When a single lamp is lit here, its flame splits into a
thousand reflections, lending the space an amazing aura – not very different
from the rural homes in western Rajasthan.
